Why strengthening your immune system begins with caring for your skin and mucous membranes
Strong defenses: Austrian organic sea buckthorn pulp oil naturally supports the protective barriers of the skin & mucous membranes
The autumn season also marks the return of flu season, presenting several challenges to our health during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore the body should already be supported preventively to strengthen its immune system, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated. Intact skin and fully functional mucous membranes, e.g. in the nose, bronchi or intestines, are an essential prerequisite for health. Sandicca organic sea buckthorn pulp oil, obtained from Austrian sea buckthorn, supports this as a natural food supplement and active oil, protecting the skin and mucous membranes. This prevents dangerous substances, viruses and bacteria from entering the body.
If we did not have skin and mucous membranes as an intact protective barrier, the immune system would be under constant demand without breaks and would have to work continuously at the limits of its capacity. This overburdening is particularly significant in the intestines, as their enormous surface area leads to intensive contact with substances from the environment through daily food intake.
If these boundary surfaces are damaged, “irritants” can pass through the barrier unhindered and trigger overreactions of the immune system in the body. In addition to increased susceptibility to infections, the consequences may include allergies, neurodermatitis and food intolerances.
Sea buckthorn pulp oil: a miracle weapon for protecting the natural barrier function with exceptionally high bioavailability
The superfood sea buckthorn, first cultivated in Austria by Sandicca, contains not only high levels of vitamin C but also a significant amount of sea buckthorn pulp oil. This oil is obtained in an elaborate process similar to that used for virgin olive oil. As a pioneer plant, sea buckthorn stores solar energy in naturally occurring beta-carotene, the precursor to provitamin A. In concentrated form, this has a cell-renewing and skin-regenerating effect, particularly for sensitive and heavily stressed mucous membranes. It thereby supports the skin’s repair system. It is also used as a radiation-protection oil to help prevent cell damage, such as that caused by excessive sun exposure. It is also used for preventive and follow-up care during chemotherapy or radiotherapy, in consultation with the treating physician, explains Tanja Kroisleitner, founder and managing director of Sandicca, who is in contact with physicians and pharmacologists in this area.
It is administered orally as a natural food supplement. Just two teaspoons provide, among other things, approximately 86% of the daily requirement of vitamin E, which as alpha–tocopherol protects cells from free radicals and thus from oxidative stress. Due to its naturally occurring vitamins and secondary plant compounds, it also has high bioavailability, which describes the speed at which an active substance reaches the bloodstream from its existing form. When applied externally, for example to the mucous membranes of the mouth or nose, it also naturally supports the skin’s barrier function and thus strengthens the immune system.
The Sandicca family business, based in the Styrian mountain region of Joglland, cultivates Austria’s first organic sea buckthorn at an altitude of 860 metres. Meanwhile, further Sandicca sea buckthorn gardens have been established throughout Austria, for example in the Lower Austrian Danube floodplains, Burgenland’s Seewinkel region and Styria’s volcanic region. Tanja Kroisleitner is pleased about the partnership with Austrian farmers with a pioneering spirit, based on mutual trust and appreciation.
Sandicca organic sea buckthorn pulp oil is available at selected Austrian pharmacies and aroma practitioners, as well as in the company’s own online shop. In September 2021, another distribution channel, the Sandicca Weg, was launched, through which independent sales partners can offer Sandicca’s Austrian sea buckthorn products and showcase the benefits of sea buckthorn. They are supported by extensive product training and a dedicated mentoring programme, says Gabriel Kroisleitner, Sandicca’s partner.
Sea buckthorn – Natural superfood from Styria
Sandicca is home to Austria’s first sea buckthorn gardens in Joglland, demonstrating that healthy superfood does not have to travel long distances to be available in Austria. The family start-up not only cultivates Austria’s first organic sea buckthorn, but also produces Austria’s first fresh food supplements alongside organic natural cosmetics. “Through carbon-neutral shipping, regional cultivation and our specially developed, patented cold-stirring process for processing sea buckthorn, we ensure not only the sustainability but also the freshness of our products. This year, the sea buckthorn was harvested at the beginning of September,” explains Tanja Kroisleitner.

About Sandicca
The family-run start-up Sandicca has been cultivating Austria’s first organic sea buckthorn since 2014 in the mountainous Joglland region of Styria. In its own Sandicca sea buckthorn gardens at around 860 metres above sea level, the founding duo Tanja and Gabriel Kroisleitner create and develop innovative products in harmony with nature. Their aim is to offer immune-boosting products from the region that accompany customers through different circumstances and phases of life, while placing the superfood sea buckthorn at the centre. The young company follows an ecological approach – from the regional and organic harvesting of sea buckthorn and gentle preservation methods without thermal heating to biodegradable and compostable shipping materials as well as CO2-neutral shipping.
