For a good tomorrow

… together we can create a better future

Preserving an environment worth living in and using our resources responsibly are among the central principles guiding the actions of Sandicca. Regionality is therefore a major pillar of our holistic sustainability strategy, Sandicca verde. Another pillar is fairness in the procurement of raw materials, efficient production, and resource-saving packaging both in the final container and during shipping.

We are growing!

Our innovative fresh food supplement made from organic sea buckthorn will soon be joined by new products. Additional varieties of innovative food supplements cultivated in Austria will be introduced in 2020. They all have one thing in common – the patented cold-stirring process, which ensures the preservation of the sea buckthorn’s secondary plant compounds and the special, natural formulation.

However, this also entails high demands on the final container, which must be flexible enough to withstand pressure of 6,000 bar—approximately 5½ times the pressure at the deepest point on Earth, the Mariana Trench.

Using glass containers is not an option for these demanding requirements. Polyethylene terephthalate (abbreviated PET) offers these advantages, but also has major disadvantages in terms of sustainability.

For our still young company, this represents a challenge, especially since our company size and our high demands on the packaging industry mean that we do not follow the mainstream. The search for innovative partners who can support us in this area has therefore accompanied us since the founding of SANDICCA, and beyond.

With “bioPET” and “rePET”, we are closing the loop.

From now on, SANDICCA can use a new, sustainably produced container material that leaves a significantly more attractive ecological footprint.

At SANDICCA, all fresh food supplements are now filled into bottles made from a material mix of bioPET and rePET. This allows us to close the loop together. And this is only the beginning.

What is bioPET?

bioPET (= bio-based PET) is a thermoplastic polyester made from annually renewable biomass from agriculture. In our case, ethanol from sugar cane serves as the basis. The bio-PET used by SANDICCA can be recycled in the existing PET recycling stream. In the near future, SANDICCA will use 100% bio-based PET for our fresh food supplements.

What is rePET?

rePET (= recycled PET) is a valuable raw material for new bottles, produced with considerably less energy than conventional PET (= virgin PET). It consists of 100% collected beverage bottles. What remains in the loop is not lost, and every gram counts. It would be a great shame to use PET material only once. In terms of color, our rePET differs from conventional PET: it has a slightly tinted color, which can be considered a quality feature.

The disposal of empty bottles takes place as usual via the yellow bin or the yellow bag for plastic packaging. This is then used to produce rePET again.

SANDICCA verde – part of the SANDICCA story

The packaging materials from SANDICCA follow our integrated sustainability concept SANDICCA verde. All sustainably produced shipping cartons and the compostable filling material can be disposed of in public collection containers. With our resource-saving integrated packaging concept, we not only offer the greatest possible safety for the ordered SANIDCCA products, but also take responsibility for our environment and future generations together with our customers.
