Well equipped even in strong sunlight
Sunlight affects our bodies in several ways, both positively and negatively. The skin absorbs the sun’s rays. For this reason, it should only be exposed to the summer sun when well protected. When the UV-A and UV-B radiation from the sun reaches the skin, the body initially releases happiness hormones. Blood circulation is stimulated and the metabolism activated. However, exposure to sunlight that is too intense or too prolonged has negative effects. Sea buckthorn can support the human body in withstanding these effects as well.
Ancient Tibetan writings already record that sea buckthorn was used for medicinal purposes, and even Genghis Khan swore by the power of sea buckthorn oil, which earned it the nickname “the emperor’s lifeblood” among the Mongols.
The orange-colored, fruitily scented SANDICCA Organic Sea Buckthorn Fruit Pulp Oil LIVA is obtained using centrifuges from cold-pressed sea buckthorn fruit pulp. The carotenoids contained in the fruit pulp oil have a strongly regenerative effect on the skin and mucous membranes, while flavonoids have a regulating effect on the immune system. Due to its content of provitamin A (beta-carotene as a precursor to vitamin A), as well as vitamins B, C, E and vitamin K, it is also known as a multivitamin oil.
Vitamin E (tocopherols) protects sea buckthorn from oxidation processes by acting as a free-radical scavenger. These tocopherols also protect human cells from free radicals. In the skin, vitamin E improves moisture retention and protects against premature skin aging caused by UV rays or harmful environmental influences, such as smog, tobacco smoke, exhaust fumes, etc. It also leads to an increase in the sun protection factor of the sunscreen product if vitamin E is taken 10–14 days before sunbathing.
Beta-carotene is a precursor to vitamin A and belongs to the carotenoids. The substances physalin, cryptoxanthin and zeaxanthin, which are also present, belong to the same class of substances and, together with beta-carotene, give the berries their color. These carotenoids are effective antioxidants that can quickly neutralize free radicals. In addition, vitamin A is a component of the visual purple in the retina of the eye. A vitamin A deficiency therefore quickly leads to reduced visual acuity with light sensitivity and possibly impaired color perception. In the skin, a vitamin A deficiency leads to dryness, wrinkle formation and “wilting.” In addition, beta-carotene can, as a natural (but weak) UV light-protection filter, prevent UV-induced skin redness and reduce the effects of a sun allergy.
Important note:
Smokers should generally not take pure vitamin A or beta-carotene supplements, as the substances’ antioxidant effect may cause additional carcinogenic compounds to form from tobacco smoke or tar, which can lead to a significantly increased risk of lung cancer. Comprehensive protection against free radicals is only achieved through the interaction of vitamin A with vitamins C and E. Smokers are therefore advised to take SANDICCA Organic Sea Buckthorn Fruit Pulp Oil daily in combination with SANDICCA Organic Sea Buckthorn Fresh Elixir +C. This covers approximately the increased vitamin C requirement of smokers.
